A-Z Design Solutions were awarded the contract to convert two existing classrooms into one science laboratory and completely refurbish one physics laboratory. The refurbishment works consisted of demolition of existing walls, erection of new walls, creation of new doorways and new mechanical and electrical services provision all before the main part of the work could be started.A-Z Design worked closely with the school staff to understand all of the design criteria and after fine-tuning layout drawings in order to ensure every aspect of the project had been catered for, a full programme of works was produced to allow the project to be completed over the summer holiday period.
The A-Z site team ensured existing services were isolated before existing furniture was carefully removed. The new partition walls were erected to create a new prep room facility, chemical storage room with a dedicated extraction system. In the physics laboratory new service riser positions were created to accommodate the new layout and floor channels cut into the slab to carry the new gas and electric services. Each area was fitted with new ceilings, lighting, full decoration, new vinyl floor covering ready for the installation of the fitted furniture. Trespa worktops were installed and the project was completed with final connections, testing and commissioning to all of the services. Gas safety systems were also installed to both areas and bespoke floor to ceiling storage to suit the departments requirements.
The transformation to these renovated spaces is remarkable and the school’s bold choice of colours for the furniture really sets it apart from other installations completed. This was a fantastic project to work on and all at A-Z are looking forward to the future works we have planned at the school.
